The Annamalai University was established in 1929 as a unitary, teaching, and residential university. The University was founded by noble hearted philanthropist of letters the late Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, Kt, LL.D., D.Litt. Its Pro-Chancellor is Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy – a philanthropist of sports. University has completed 82 years and grown rapidly. It has 49 Departments of Study. The University campus occupies an area of about thousand acres. It includes the colleges, hostels, and playgrounds. The Directorate of Distance Education was established in the year 1979. It offers 401 different programmes under the Regular Stream.
