The University was established on 23rd November, 1949 with its Head Quarter in Ahmadabad. The University spreads over 260 acres. 250 colleges are affiliated to the University. It has 15 recognized Institutions and 24 Approved Institutions). It has 45 P. G. Depts. (2004-2005). Total 2,27,812 students were appeared in March/April 2004 Examination.
